Tyrant God Saga is a game that was pretty innovative at the time: it tells the adventures of Ellydir, a blue haired knight that possess a cursed sword and excells among the identical blonde (cloned?) companions of the academy, working for the mysterious Council against demons, dark angels and other foul creatures. But things are never like they seem, of course, apparently Ellydir has a forgotten past that someone don't want to be remembered.
The game uses a custom battle system that includes using souls of the defeated enemies to create consumables or power the special moves of the characters. The system isn't really very complex (and the author optionally pops in giving advices and explanations on the mechanics introduced) but requires some planning and strategy. Battles require in fact to find and exploit the opponent's weakness rather than just attacking with the most powerful move. Visuals are simple but the setting and music are mysterious and evocative. A game that stands out for sure.
